What is your favorite alto-saxophone reed?
What is the difference of the thickness of a saxophone reed?
I went to a music shop and saw that there are many different type of thickness or reeds for an alto sax.I would like to know what is the difference of these thickness and what possible advantage or disadvantage they could give on a saxophone player.
Buying cane saxophone reeds?
I play the sax and have increasing trouble buying reeds. The music stores won't sell them by the box anymore I like Rico french cut, so you think it wouldn't be difficult. But last week I went to five different stores and for the first time I had to buy individual reeds. The story was pretty much the same, " If I sold a box of Rico French 3 1 2s to you, I wouldn't have any left for my other customers, but I can give you two French 3 1 2s and two American 3 1 2s.Do reed makers want players to switch to plastic or carbon? Cane reeds break and it's impossible to play with just two or three and we all have favorite mouthpieces that like different kinds of reeds or else amatures like me would play slightly out of tune. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem or should I just forget about it and buy 10 boxes online somewhere or just give up on cane reeds altogethor and make the switch to plastic?
What is the difference between the size number of saxophone reeds?
I just purchased a tenor saxophone after playing an alto for 4 years and it came with a reed. The reed hurts my lips because it vibrates more, does this have to do with the reed size like 1,2,2.5,3,ect. . If not what does the reed size determine?

My sister and I both play instruments I play the clarinet and she plays the alto saxophone. She claims that it is difficult to play with a reed that is level 3 in hardness. I think she's a wimp. She wants to prove that saxophone reed hardnesses are different than clarinet reed hardness. if this if confusing, she means that if we both have level 3 reeds, hers will be harder So here i am asking this question.
Mold on saxophone reeds?
I left a box of reeds in New Zealand for about 7 months... now they have mold on them. Granted this wasn't the smartest thing to do, I was wondering if there's any chance I can save them? If it helps, the mold was blue ish gray, and looked like dust. Wow... even typing that makes this feel more hopeless D anyways, they were rather expensive and kind of important to me so I'd like to know if there's anything I can do to improve this already bad situation. I have recently bought a new saxophone reed. My teacher has balanced it and I have put it under water for about a minute to soften it, but it still makes crackly noises when I play How can I get the nice tone back to it that I had before?If it helps, the reed strength is 2 1 2 and it's an Alto Saxophone.

I've been playing trumpet for a year and just decided to go back to playing clarinet, so that i could compete. i didn't pick the trumpet cause i've only played it for a year and i have played the clairinet for 3 years. my band instructor gave me a saxophone reed for it,, but it is really hard for me to get notes out of it,, is it because I'm still getting used to being back on the clarinet or because it is an alto saxophone reed?

since clarinet reeds stay flat when you put it in your mouth.. aren't saxophone reeds supposed to stay flat too? or is it supposed to bend?
Beginner saxophone - reed question.?
My reed and ligature both slide loose when I'm playing, no matter how tightly I do up the ligature, and it is done up as tightly as it will go .Could it be that it's too high on the mouthpiece? any other suggestions?I think the tonguing is making it move, and it's very annoying
